I sat on the edge of the bed, respite from the midday heat, with a bowl of still-warm apricot compote and cold yoghurt wondering could it get any better than this?
Sorry Ciara, I started reading this this morning and got waylaid. Were you at Murlough? - when I drove down in February the road at that sharp right turn in the lane two thirds down was completely destroyed.
I didn’t dare go further with my sister and nephew in the car because I got stuck on a lump of metamorphic gneiss trying to do a three (sorry twenty point ) turn by the gate beside the bothy last summer- that’s laziness and a rented car for me…. a very kind couple from Belfast doing a photo shoot for a charity calendar for bereaved mothers who have lost loved ones during the troubles helped me out thank God - cos there was no mobile signal down there.
Though a beautiful swim, it sounds like you had your work cut out for you with the wee ones. I so admire your resilience as a parent.
Oh my gosh no I’ve never driven that part of the track and it’s unfixable now I think. We always park before the cattle grid and walk along. It’s a beautiful spot 💛
Love this! I've often thought about the similarity between the words compost and compote...
I adored your *recipe* for the apricot sauce. Sounds exactly like the way I cook!
I do like a slurpy salad too.
And your gorgeous pics! Thank you for the gift of having my weekly (and imaginary) getaway to the North Coast!
The map! What a treasure. I have Tim Robinson’s Connemara map and it’s truly magnificent.
Now that’s a title that’s promising a lot!
“Shit, should’ve written it down” – haven’t we all been in this place at least once?
Why can’t restaurants create these types of wonderful salads? I think that question resides next to, why do pizza knives suck?
Mulough looks spectacular…
In the end, this was, indeed, the best posting that I read in this moment – thanks for sharing!

I feel self shamed now Ciara - lazily chugging my petrol car further than needed - I need to learn from this and think more of our vulnerable planet.
So much joy, slurping, smooshing and all round scrumptiousness in one post, Ciara. Best one ever? Pretty close, mate. 🤓
Thank you Ken!
That sounds like a pretty special day
