I picked the first of the Elderberries last week, it seemed strange to me that they were already dripping off the branches and it was barely September, even picking them in the hot sun confused my senses as the retreat into autumn was momentarily halted by this late heat wave.
Braving nettles *and* blackberries brambles…you are an intrepid forager! I loved your elderberry story, sharing both recipes and fond memories. The copper kettle headgear is very flattering too, lol!
I was looking at the elderberries as I picked my blackberries a few days ago, and wondered what I could do with them. This elixir sounds great, thank you Ciara!
That was so beautiful and poignant. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Sarah, food and memory are so entwined x
I think I need to go out with a tub and do some collecting on my next walk! Thanks for the inspiration - your cooking looks delish x
Thank you so much! If I don’t pick anything else I always pick elderberries x
I honestly had no idea what they were until you posted this so thank you! X
“We are so disconnected, I lament it every day it seems.” 😔

Love your post! Question about the recipe: what does “clove” refer to? (Asking from Tennessee, in the US)
Thanks you so much Christina; it is the spice clove, pungent tiny dried flower buds
